Gary has several arts and cultural centers, not the least of which are two fine theatrical venues.
Westside Theatre Guild
The West Side Theatre Guild originated in 1996 at West Side High School in Gary, Indiana. Its mission is twofold. Students who desire an opportunity to perform beyond the limits of the drama class are given valuable experience. Secondly, the guild brings traditional and contemporary productions to the general public in the Gary/Lake County area. Rave reviews made weekend encore performances of Jesus Christ Superstar necessary in 1998.
In the years since West Side Auditorium was built (1968), performers such as Nancy Wilson, Rudolf Nureyev, Sammy Davis Jr., Van Cliburn, Sidney Poitier, the Tnuatron Dancers and Tel Aviv, Jerry Butler, and a host of others have entertained full houses at the auditorium.
This year, entertainers such as Mavis Staples, Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis, and Bill Cosby will be performing. Season tickets and corporate sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, contact:
