 Jeffrey Ward - Fire Chief |
Administration Fire Chief Chief Ward joined the fire service in 1969 as a private/firefighter and was promoted to the positions of Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, and Division Chief. In October of 2006, he was appointed Fire Chief by the Honorable Mayor Rudolph Clay. Chief Ward is the first Gary Fire Chief to have experience as a certified Paramedic (25 years) and as an Industrial firefighter (US Steel 5 years). Chief Ward attended Indiana University and Ivy Tech State College. |
 Deputy Chief Bonearl Black |
Deputy Fire Chief The Deputy Chief is a tested position and is selected by the Gary Fire Civil Service Commission procedures. The current Deputy Chief is Bonearl Black. He has been serving in that position since February 2005. Prior to his appointment to deputy chief, he served as Division Chief in charge of First Turn. Chief Black has also served in many capacities during his tenure with the department including Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, and Division Chief. |
