Promoting Healthy Living Through Prevention, Protection and Intervention
On behalf of the dedicated staff of the Health and Human Services Division of the City of Gary, we are pleased to present our first comprehensive HHS Directory of Services. It is designed to ease your access to the many services that are available to the families of Gary, Indiana and surrounding areas.
National statistics reflect a disproportionate burden of diseases in inner city populations. HHS is committed to implementing effective, integrated approaches designed to eliminate health disparities and barriers.
We are already well on our way to meeting the Healthy People 2010 goals, as evidenced by recent progress reports on the HHS readiness initiatives. The first such initiative was the establishment of the City's HHS Community Outreach Intervention Centers in 1999. In the year 2000, immunization clinical services rose from 10,101 to 18,704, accounting for a 19% increase.
