DOWNTOWN HOUSING:

The City of Gary has targeted its Central Business District (CBD) for housing development, and several projects (below) are in varying stages of development. The impetus for this renaissance comes from many sources, from a stabilization of the overall Gary housing market, the introduction of attractions to the downtown area and, very importantly, the decision by the City itself that targeting downtown for housing programs will lead to an increase in other development downtown.

2B. THE DALTON BUILDING: This impressive but empty structure, along East 5th Avenue in the Stadium District, is targeted for both residential and commercial development. The rehabilitation plan calls for re-use of first-floor commercial space and creation of 57 apartments in the six stories above the ground floor.The developer has chosen this property to take advantage of Stadium proximity and new residential development.
