BIKE TRAILS

The City of Gary is home to several bike trails, and plans are in the works for extensions to this system. The Planning Department is implementing a transportation grant to create bike trails along the Clark Road corridor, connecting the Grand Calumet River, near the Toll Road, to the Little Calumet River, which is near Borman Expressway.

The same grant would create bike trails in the Miller section of Gary as well, connecting the Gary beaches to the Miller business district and, via County Line Road, to bike trails in neighboring Portage and Lake Station.

A trail allowing access to natural areas in the Brunswick community is under development. This trail would connect existing recreational areas in Brunswick Park to nearby woodlands. Planning for this project is being performed jointly with the Gary Department of Environmental Affairs.
