CITY MASTER PLAN

The Planning Department is anticipating the development of a new master plan for the City of Gary. Master plans - also called comprehensive plans - are created to assess where a community has come from, to take into account the community's strengths and weaknesses and, most importantly, to create a vision to guide the development of the city into the future.

The new Gary master plan will affect every part of town, and for all facets of our city's growth: residential areas, commercial districts, industrial areas, tourist zones (like the beaches, lakefront casinos, and the stadium area downtown), and the transportation system as well. This project is in its infancy, however; as it develops, we will provide status reports on the City's web page.
