MAYOR'S CULTURAL ARTS & JAZZ FEST THIS WEEKEND
...SPECIAL GUEST, FRED "THE HAMMER" WILLIAMSON

Gary, Indiana - The City of Gary will present The Mayor's second annual Cultural Arts, Crafts & Jazz Fest in celebration of Arts Day in Gary on Sunday, August 26th.   Mayor Clay announced that actor & producer, Fred "The Hammer" Williamson will be a special guest.

The Arts event will feature over 25 arts organizations and cultural entities, the jazz musical talents of the Billy Foster Jazz Ensemble, and the Ron Pickett Band, and a Vintage and Classic Cars Display.

RECORDING ARTIST CHRIS BROWN AT CITY HALL
MAYOR CLAY HOSTS PRESS CONFERENCE

Gary, Indiana - Mayor Rudy Clay will hold a Press Conference, Wednesday, August 22, 2007 in support of the Chris Brown concert at the Genesis Convention Center.

The previous Dance Down 2007 event featuring Chris Brown was postponed last month on July 5th following power outages in the city’s downtown area.

The Press Conference is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. in the Gary Room of City Hall.

City Hall is located at 401 Broadway.

MAYOR CLAY THANKS GOVERNOR, ASKS TO DECLARE GARY A DISASTER ZONE

Gary, Indiana - Mayor Clay thanked Governor Mitch Daniels for his immediate response to "our wounded city."   The Mayor has asked the Governor to issue an executive order to declare Gary an Emergency Disaster Zone to include abandoned houses, following last week's storm that ravaged the city.

CITY'S ONE WEEK TIRE PROGRAM YIELDS NEARLY 3000 TIRES

Gary, Indiana - Mayor Clay announced early this month the start up of a new tire program in the city that will pay Gary residents to recycle old tires.  Mayor Clay said the tire program will help keep Gary clean, and allow citizens to get paid at the same time.

MAYOR CLAY DECLARES GARY A LOCAL DISASTER AREA

Gary, Indiana - Mayor Rudy Clay has declared the city of Gary a local disaster area following the storm this week that caused severe damage to properties in the city.

Mayor Clay is now asking the governor to issue an executive order to declare Gary an Emergency Disaster Zone. The declaration is necessary when requesting state or federal assistance.

Gary, Indiana - Mayor Rudy Clay will hold a Press Conference, Monday, August 20, 2007 at 42nd & Pennsylvania Street, the site of one of the most devastating areas as a result of the storm on Wednesday.

The Press Conference is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.  Councilman Ronier Scott of the 6th District will join the Mayor in the Press Conference.

Gary, Indiana - The City of Gary will present The Mayor's "Cultural Arts, Crafts and Jazz" Fest on Sunday, August 26, 2007 in celebration of Arts Day in Gary.  In 2006, Mayor Rudy Clay proclaimed the last Sunday in August each year, as the annual celebration of the Arts in Gary.

DEPUTY MAYOR SPEAKS AT NATIONAL PLANNING CONFERENCE

Gary, Indiana - Deputy Mayor Geraldine B. Tousant will represent Mayor Rudy Clay at the upcoming National Conference to be held in Gary beginning Thursday.

The City of Gary along with the Gary, East Chicago, Hammond Empowerment Zone and Indiana University Northwest will host the National Planning and the Black Community Division Conference on Wednesday, August 8th through Saturday, August 11th.

Gary, Indiana - "Since I believe "cleanliness is next to Godliness," I’m asking every church to adopt a block in their community to help us make Gary a cleaner and safer city,"  said Mayor Rudy Clay.  Mayor Clay will meet with local churches asking for their support of his clean up Gary initiative.
